DoW2 and Relic's other last great game Warhammer: Space Marine, nail what that means. In-universe, the Space Marines are supposed to be ridiculously powerful and believably capable of fighting thousands of heretics and xenos with just a handful of their own. The atmosphere of Warhammer 40K is captured in those games in a way that I did not experience with DoW3 when I got to try it in the beta. It is up to you if you choose to do so but there is a risk that you could either hate it and have it put you off similar games for good or you have some fun at first and buy it only to later realise it was a mistake.ĭoW2 has a smaller scale to it because it is squad-level tactics rather than a whole army, but it and the Chaos Rising expansion have a strong single-player campaign that is highly replayable, though the multiplayer is less to be desired. I can not recommend in good conscience that anyone play DoW3 even if there is currently a free weekend.
